What is mould surface finish?

Mould surface finish is usually means polishing or texture for cavity finish. In order for moulded part visible beauty and increase mould life by hard core, cavity, slider and lifter etc.

There are many names for mould surface finish:

Such as SPI A2, MT11660, VDI-3400 30 and YS7298 etc. Whatever the standard you want, just provide the number of standard. Maybe it will be confusion when you do the first job with mould supplier. It could classify 4 type:

1) Polishing

2) Texture

There are Thin Fire Texture and Texture. VDI 3400 is CHARMILL VDI Specification, and Texture is MT  Specification. Now many more company like to us China YS standard. As it is lots of choose and cheaper but good quality.

3) Plating

Plating is not only increase hardness and gloss of mould surface, but also increase corrosion resistance, heat resistance and electrode contractility. So it could increase mould life. Usually it uses chrome-plating.

4) Blasting

We use the Blast Media: Ceramic beads, Glass beads, Plastic, Aluminum oxide, Silicon carbide, Carborundum and Metal shot and steel grit

Glass bead and ceramic bead media are used to clean, smooth, brighten, peen, and de-scale surfaces. Fine glass and ceramic media can smooth or de-burr parts. Aluminum oxide, crushed glass, and steel grit are used in more aggressive applications such as machined components and can remove heavy scale or rust. Wet blasting can also aid in lubricity and release.
